See I am sending an Angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared. Pay attention to him and listen to what He says.... My name is in Him.
The Hebrew word translated 'angel' (malak) can also mean messenger, ambassador, King, specifically of God.
Many years later a messenger and ambassador of God came. Consider the similarities;
John 14:2-4 "Do not let your hearts be troubled, trust in God, trust in Me also. In my Father's house are many rooms, .... I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place I am going"
A promise of going to a place prepared by God. The promise of God's messenger to lead the way there.
Mark 9:7 "Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to Him" (emphasis added)
God again from a cloud is giving authority to His Messenger, His Son. We are to listen to Him as One who brings God's words.
Yahshua declared in John 12:49-50 "For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say."
In John 17:11 The Chosen One prays to the Father; "Protect them by the power of your name - the name you gave me.... While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me."
Yahshua like the angel has God's name in Him, and like the Angel, has been given the task of guarding and protecting those who belong to God.
